Theme Day: The Color Red

Red building, motorcycle and jeep

Once again, La Antigua Guatemala Daily Photo is participating in the theme day of the Daily Photo community. This time the theme is about the color red. Here you can see the Compañía de Jusús building under care of the Cooperación Española which is a huge red building; one full block to be specific. This building has had many uses through history, like the home of Bernal Díaz del Castillo, home to the Jesuits of Central America in colonial times, thus its name, and more recently it houses a public library, culture center under the administration of Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional. You can see the big entrance of the building, the interior gardens and arches and one the side wall of the ruins. I decided to photograph this building because it’s the biggest red thing in La Antigua Guatemala, but I was lucky to have a red motorcycle and a red jeep enter the viewfinder at the moment I snapped the shot; how lucky, indeed.

I had to break my coverage of the San Pedro Las Huertas town fair for this theme day. I will continue with other aspects of a Guatemalan town fair tomorrow and through the week. Come back tomorrow for the follow up. In the mean time, I leave you with the links to the other Daily Photo sites which decided to participate in the theme day.

Over 100 Daily Photo City sites are participating in the July 1st Theme Day: The Color Red, please use the links below to visit them.

Due to time zone differences and other factors, the theme photo may not be displayed until later if you are viewing early in the day.

    Love your red photo.

I haven’t commented before, but want you to know that Antigua Daily Photo is what greets me every morning as I sip my coffee. I spend half the year in Guatemala (and the other half in the US) in a house very near San Pedro las Huertas. I love that village. As I love all of Guatemala. Your daily photo is very important to me. The photos are always interesting and often, stunningly beautiful. It is especially fun to see things I often see in person, through your camera lens, as I then see them differently. As for your commentary, it is wonderful. Your personality shines through and while your English isn’t flawless, your vocabulary is amazing and the little mistakes you sometimes make in grammar and usage help me to be less self-conscious when I attempt to speak Spanish. So, Rudy, don’t ever think that no one’s seeing and enjoying and learning from your work. You are doing a great job and it is appreciated–every single day!

  • Nathalie in Sydney

  • JW

    Very cool.

  • Love it because it’s colour but also because I love perspectives and this one is great !

  • Coltrane_lives

I love the colors of La Antigua…especially the yellows and “reds” like this one. Cool that you got the red motorcycle and jeep. Is that called “good timing?” Have a great day, mi amigo!

  • Ann

How cool to have a red jeep and red motorcycle enter the shot 🙂

  • Tanty, I believe you are right, this is brick red.

Gerald, I thought there were only 100 cities participating… didn’t you get the links from the portal?

Edwin, if you want to see a watermelon, a watermelon it is. Your choice, we are an equal opportunity site.

Pedp, you know I really like this building too, mostly for the library and culture center, although I have no problem with its architectonic beauty.

Abe, We’ll go see you as Moses Abraham Lincoln.

Suzy, thanks for the compliments and feedback. I am happy to know my horrible mistakes against the English language does not interfere too much with the captions.

Nathalie, I know you like this red. I forgot to mentioned I posted this photo especially for you.

Javier, are we meeting for lunch with some Mozas?

    JW, cool… maybe warm. 😉

Fabrizio, perspective is my only tool to show a vanishing point where I can try to put such huge building inside a single frame.

Coltrane, you should check out my Antigua Color Palette.

    Ann, just luck, I guess.

  • Both (movie and photo) great !!! About the photo I love the white umbrella in foreground. Thank you for sharing.

  • I beautiful red photo…not to brilliant…almost with a red earth tone. I like it a lot.

  • Manolo

Pues this is a wonderful picture. I believe that this tone of Red should be copyrighted as Antigua Red :-). Love those huge windows with the wrought iron bars…

  • Lavenderlady, it is a very warm and earthy red. La Antigua Guatemala has a love for it.

Manolo, this is actually an official Antigüeño red . See my color palette series. This red is alson known as Santo Domingo Red.

  • Nice shot of the building. I like the way it also includes a guy on a red bike zipping by.
