Karen,
There are a number of great day trips you could do from Antigua. Lake Atitlan is probably one of the best, however Mixco Viejo (a ruin) is very interesting and less visited.

There are a couple different volcanoes you can climb. Pacaya is the easier but you can also climb Acatenango in a day.

The fishing trip was on the Pacific Coast, not at the lake.

Hello,
I live in Austin, Tx. and my daughter is a teacher in Honduras. She is getting married this nov. and has chosen Antigua, Guatemala as her location. Any info. that you can provide would be so appreciated. I seem to be having trouble getting info. Right now, I have talked to panza verde and Hotel Posada del Angel. There we need to come up with florist, caterer, photographer etc. We expect 40-50 people. Thank You!

I am planning a destination wedding to antigua for November 2010. Any recommendations for great day trips besides the volcano and coffee tours? Was the fishing on the lake in Panajachel?

Thank you for posting this. Antigua is a spectacular place to be married. My husband and I married here in April of 2008 and I just planned a friend’s wedding here last week, including an excursion to the lake, cooking classes and a fantastic fishing trip. I got to visit Antigua 2 years ago on a sailing trip and I absolutely loved it! I recently got engaged and we have been considering heading there for if not the wedding at leaset the honeymoon and we cannot wait.

I KNOW THIS COUPLE. THEY WERE DOING THEIR PHOTO SESSION THAT DAY IN ANTIGUA. THEY GOT MARRIED TWO MONTHS AGO AND WANTED TO DO THEIR WEDDING PICTURES IN ANTIGUA. I DID THE BRIDE’S MAKE UP. AS YOU SAID ANTIGUA GUATEMALA IS JUST A MAGICAL, WONDERFUL PLACE. AND FOR WEDDINGS IT IS JUST LIKE A FAIRYTALE.
