Inside El Calvario Church

Inside El Calvario Church Atrium

I have been accused by some close friends of never showing the inside of churches in AntiguaDailyPhoto. Okay, they might be partially right, so I will make an honest effort to go inside churches to bring you new images from within the temples. However, we will go slow, for now it will be the atriums. For instance, today’s photo is a vista from the inside looking out of El Calvario Church.

What do you think, are you interested in seeing the inside of churches and ruins?

    Thanks Rudy,

I enjoy all your work with this unique and extraordinary web site. I was married in Antigua in ’83 at the Church of San Bartolome Becerra (any chance of a photo of that in your Church collection?), and lived in Guate for 6 years, frequently returning until 2006.

Antigua has always had a very special place in my heart and I indulge my fantasy of living there through your pictures. You have an amazing eye for selecting the distilled essence of this town and the wider idiosyncrasies of the nation; all done with great talent, humility, good humour and artistic sensitivity. It’s not just the photos, but the the wisdom and reflection conveyed in the commentary. May you and your website never die!

One day, when I am able, I will gladly become a sponsor for you to continue this work. There must be many people like me for whom this site is an oasis in the desert…my desert for the moment is living in the UK! Ah yes!…the grass is always greener on the other side!

  • Eric

As someone who does not see the inside of many churches ( ahem ), I would love to see a series on the insides of the churches (y las ruinas) in La Antigua. I have visited a few of the ruins, but I didn’t want to ask about seeing the inside of many churches. There seemed to be quite a bit of activity around the churches during my last visit, so I didn’t think a crazy turista poking in the door was a welcome idea. Maybe I was wrong?
On the other hand, un loco antigueno con camara…. 😉

YES -YES- YES!!! Please go inside… that’s the best part!

  • I have a story that we filmed in El Calvario for Telemundo. There was a scene with a shadow of La Llorona. The antigua guatemalan actress Rosa Maria Porras was the legendary ghost. Simply great!!
