Street Repairs Before Lent

Obras Públicas Municipales

Another typical vista from February are the streets repairs done before or during Cuaresma, Lent, to have all the streets in their best condition for Semana Santa, Holy Week, in La Antigua Guatemala.

Do you know how much money is spent every year on street repairs? Hint, the answer is in the archives.

Typical? I thought not; seeing in the right side of the frame a blonde girl in a flowing cream dress kneeling in the road scraping at something….with one red shoe off and her matching red bag hanging on the bicycle. Obviously an over-active imagination! When I zoomed the picture, I saw it was just the coincidental arrangement of “costales” and “baldes”, Oh, well; I preferred my curious vision while it lasted!

Great observation Hugh. I took a second look at picture and you are correct regarding the coincidental arrangement of the costales looking like a blonde woman that just fell off her bike.

-Sigh- I wish my city would give up potholes for Lent…. ;D

  • Very nice photo of people doing their job. Looks like a very old cobblestone street.
