Coin-operated Payphone

Coin-operated Payphone by Rudy Girón

Perhaps, coin-operated public phone booths have a better chance than pre-paid card operate public phones. Too bad there are not too many coin-operated public phones. Now it is a good deal to be able to call anywhere in Guatemala for 25 centavos (about US$0.03) per minute. That’s about 8 times cheaper than cellular phone rates.

What’s the per minute rate for a national call via a public phone in your country?

Live in Connecticut, US and haven’t seen one here is years.

  • I still see them in New York City, and there are pretty of them in midtown Manhattan, and you can find them inside subway stations too. But I don’t see people use them. The last time I used it, was about 5 years ago, my cellular phone went dead.

Hey Rudy, I really like your blog! I found it very interesting and informative, and Guatemala is a fascinating country to me. Keep up the good work!
