The ice cream transaction

The ice cream transaction by Rudy A. Girón

I read somewhere, can’t remember where now, that luck is just where preparation meets an opportunity. Well, if that’s the case, I was lucky to capture this little girl as she was walking to get an ice cream cone. I was with the camera ready on my hand and thought the heladero, ice cream vendor, would be an outstanding stamp of the daily life around Antigua Guatemala, so I began to make the composition and to my surprise this little girl showed up and made the photo even better; ten times better.

I feel lucky to have been prepared when the opportunity appeared, don’t you agree?

    I agree, she is adorable.

    • Hi Asil, thanks for your comment. She’s indeed lovely.

What a difference it makes to have a real photographer looking after ADP! That sepia shot is fabulous! When you invite contributions like from Nelo, these are excellent, sensitive and atmospheric additions to a very rich portfolio spanning years. No wonder everyone wants to go and live in Antigua! We, all the readers and fans of ADP are really blessed to have you guys at the helm!

    • Hi Canche, the photo above is mine by the way. Nelo’s photos were only for the velación. Today’s photo belongs to my photo flow at Instagram which you can follow at or at sidebar of, I am glad you like it.

Very fortunate, Rudy, and quite the composition.  But I’m not that surprised.  You are notorious for the “sneaky, I-just-happened-to-be-there” shot !  Ja-ja !

    • I promise, I just happened to be walking by…

    Hi Rudy,
I knew the heladero photo was yours; as is most of the inspired collection. My phrasing didn’t make that clear and I guess I got a bit lazy and wanted to complement the alfombra shots from the Ash Wednesday posting all within the same message! It’s the mark of a leader to give space to others who are also good.

    • Thanks Canche for your feedback and kind words. We do what we can.
