Classic Ford 1953 seen in Antigua Guatemala

Classic Ford 1953 seen in Antigua Guatemala by Rudy Girón

I don’t know about you, but I like the design of most things done before 70s. I mean just take something as mundane as a refrigerator and back in the 1950s the design was better. Obviously cars are the best example of that. Take the 1953 Ford coupe above, come on, cars back then had style, personality. Nowadays, most modern cars look the same and you have to look for the brand to realize what they are; there are some exceptions, but most modern cars look generic to me. Of course I’m being simplistic and make some broad generalizations, but you get the general idea, right?

What do you think, am I crazy to think designer really use the Gestalt theory and principles before the 70s?

Video trivia: Guess where “El Gordo” who is actually “flaco” is playing at?

This is a beautiful example of a 136 Ford Popular 100E, made and marketed in England from the 50’s. I suspect the model may be later than ’53 and actually be a 1960 model. There cannot be many left in the world in that condition!

I need to correct myself and admit this could indeed be a ’53 model; the year they began production. Probably no one cares anyway except the owner!

Since I am technically a child of the 60’s, I can agree, Rudy.  Pre-1970 (well, I would include a few 70 and 71 models) autos are fantastic.  My favorite in La Antigua is the ’69 Chevelle that usually parks near Dona Gavi’s.  Style, personality, and the Slant-6 engine has more than enough power to turn those oversize tires in the back.  I know.  My Dad had one just like it.  (Miss you, Dad!) 😀

I dont’ claim to know much about cars, but I do love the lines of the earlier models…and the colors too! Great shot!

Rudy, two weeks ago I was sitting at the same table where “El Gordo” is playing, Cafe Condesa.  Now that I am back in California I cannot wait to be in La Antigua Guatemala again.
