Rudy, I don't know enough about development around La Antigua to comment on gated communities there, but when I lived in Florida, they seemed to spring from the ground like weeds. It seemed like a land developer would drain some swampy land, build a gate and a few model homes, and within weeks there was an instant community. Whether this was good or bad depended on if you were a resident for many years who suddenly had to deal with more traffic, noise, people, or if you were a new home buyer happy to have finally purchased a place of your own. How is the land secured for these developments in La Antigua ? Do they build on "open land", or do they force other homes or businesses to relocate ? And, as we have discussed previously ... does the gate help, or hurt, the security of the residents ?

Yes Buzz ( cool name) I have seen you guys ( expats) while waiting on line for my pan at Doña Luisa's. Often I admire your new "caites" but I'm much too shy to ask from which mercado you purchased them from. je je je
The "occupy" movement is not new to Guate, people have been occupying idle terrenos whenever there is an opportunity. I figured they can do the same with the undeveloped real estate that Rudy photographed.

Salud !

Regarding the comment by NYChapin, quite a few of us expats from the U.S. and Canada are already occupying Antigua. It's a beautiful place to live full of beautiful people and beautiful weather.
