Lent Food: Elotes & Elotes Locos

Rudy Giron: AntiguaDailyPhoto.com &emdash; Lent Food: Elotes Locos

As explained before, elotes locos are chucherías (snacks) that are always present in the typical Guatemalan county or town fair. To make elotes locos at home you basically add butter, mayonnaise, ketchup, and some dry cheese like parmesan on top of your corn on the cob. Some people also put hot sauce on it. One more thing, don’t forget to add a stick so it’s easier to hold the elote loco.

I love corn but I am yet to eat elotes locos. Corn covered with bunch of things does not look appetizing.

There are two things my relatives bring to me when in La Antigua Guatemala, fresh coconut water and elotes cocidos but you will never see me eating elotes locos.

    • Me neither Luis, but I must say when I was much younger, I did had a thing for elotes locos. Nowadays, lime juice and salt are the most I would put on the elotes.
