Pilas de Santa Clara

I have always called this monument Tanque de la Unión because that’s what everybody calls it. However, I learned during my Antigua Guatemala’s history certificate course, that most historians call it Pilas o Lavaderos de Santa Clara. I believe both names are correct, but Pila de Santa Clara is probably more correct since these washbasins are right across the Santa Clara ruins. Also, pila is the actual term we use in Guatemala for the water container attached to the lavaderos (washbasins).

Of course, the whole entry is just an excuse to show off the beautiful light and temperate weather we are enjoying in Antigua Guatemala, but, then again, you already knew that, right?
