Guatemalan Portrait: Gypsy Woman

Rudy Giron: &emdash; Guatemalan Portrait: Gypsy Woman

One important aspect of the Guatemalan Portrait series is to show the rainbow of people that Guatemalans can be, although many only think of them as Maya or Mestizos. This is something I have been doing for a while, as in the Guatemalan couple for Valentine’s Day, you remember them, right?

Every time I see this exotic Guatemalan woman I can only think of the lyrics of “I recall a Gypsy woman” by Don Williams. Now, can anyone explain to me how this country song got into my unconsciousness? Where did I pick it up?

Wow! What a voice Don Williams has. He also reminds me of Guatemala. In 1979 I used to sit in a lounge with my greatest friend, a genuine American farmer, who still lives there and watch Don on TNN (The Nashville Network). We’d cry at some of the songs.

Maybe you watched that channel too! You know Rudy, I don’t know where you get these things, but you constantly surprise me with your diversity of interests and influences! Having said all that, I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a gypsy woman in Guatemala, so thanks for this first post.
