A Hidden Gastronomic Jewel in Antigua Guatemala

“Lomito” with Chiltepe Sauce by Elí Orozco

I’ve discovered a hidden gastronomic jewel in La Antigua Guatemala. The Cocina del Obispo restaurant is not conveniently located but if you take the time to find it and try its food, trust me, you’ll love it.

The atmosphere is quite lovely; you are surrounded by a charming garden which is frequented by these colorful hummingbirds. Your meal might be serenaded by a duet of whistling and singing parrots. The whole ambiance is the perfect complement for an exquisite meal.

Their focus is on a Guatemalan dishes and some of them with a little twist and innovation. Their Pepian, a Guatemalan Stew, is very rich and flavourful.

And this “Lomito” with Chiltepe Sauce was a perfect concoction, perfectly season meat with a tomato sauce infused with Chiltepe hot peppers.

If you order a carbonated drink with your meal, I’ll come over and will kick you out! Instead try their freshly made Horchata, a ground rice and cinnamon drink, delicious!

If you are in or near La Antigua Guatemala you have to try La Cocina del Obispo, and the prices are reasonable.
