Festival del Aguacate — Avocado Tasting at Casa Popenoe by Rudy Giron

Is avocado a fruit or a vegetable?

Is avocado for sweet or salty dishes?

Is avocado for sauces, main dishes or dessert?

What do you guys think?

Take a look at the gallery below and decide for yourself!

At the Festival del Aguacate, avocado festival, organised by Casa Popenoe, we have top chefs, cooks, and culinary students challenge all these conventions through creative dishes. Over 100 people were treated to avocado-based oils, mayonnaise, dressings, sauces, side dishes, main dishes, desserts and sorbets. Our palate was reset with a piece of bread and water so we can enjoy to the fullest the salty, spicy, hot, sweet and complex flavours of the avocado-based offerings.

To make it even more fun, there was a competitions with two distinct groups of judges; the 100 attendees and four appointed judges. There were also, several categories and prizes for all the competing avocado dishes.

The weather cooperated with a wonderful sunny and chilly morning. It was an incredible event, the first I believe, in Antigua Guatemala.

I hope and wish Casa Popenoe hosts The Avocado Festival every year from here forward!
