Antigua Guatemala’s Mayor at Work

Rudy Giron: Antigua Guatemala &emdash; Antigua Guatemala's Mayor at Work

This morning we were awaken by very strong tremors, a 5.4 earthquake at 5:30am. The epicentre was quite close to Antigua Guatemala, in neighbouring department of Escuintla. Later in the morning I was leading a photo walk and we visited Palacio del Ayuntamiento, the city hall building, and that’s when we noticed Susana Asensio, the mayor of Antigua Guatemala in a meeting to oversee the safety and safeguards protocols with the different entities in charge of preventing disasters in the Guatemala.

What kind of details can you see in this picture? What do you find interesting?

The first thing I noticed was the rare feature of public officials apparently working (just a joke; nice to see them dressed ready to work rather than just ready to talk) and then my eyes fell on other things. The windows behind them seem to be mirrors and two flags adorn the sides: the Guatemalan and departmental (?) flags, the latter carrying the colours of the panza verde? Is that right?

    • Well, Canche, I am glad they are putting their heads together, but I wish they had done it much earlier, giving that Antigua Guatemala is a region probed to strong earthquakes. I mean, this is something they should have a plan for already.
