Independence Day Decorations — Costa Rican Flag

Rudy Giron: Antigua Guatemala &emdash; Pura Vida - Costa Rican Flag

Volcanos, triangles and stars are the two most often motifs found on the Central American republic flags. The Central American Federation flag had five volcanoes inside a triangle with cornucopia providing abundance to all five provinces. Even today, Nicaragua and El Salvador’s flags still keep most of the design of the Central American Federation flag. Costa Rican kept the volcanoes in the design of their flag.

As I mentioned before, all five flags of the Central American countries are flown for the celebrations of Independence and that is why we can see the Costa Rican flag in La Antigua Guatemala.

By the way, did you know that it took nearly two months for the news of Independence to reach Costa Rica back in 1821. Pura vida pues!
