Antigua's Wedding Season Is Here by Rudy Girón

The dry season could also be called the wedding season since it is the time of the year when La Antigua Guatemala becomes a wonderful wedding destination. During the dry season often, very often, you see couples, locals and foreigners, getting married in one of the churches. As I have mentioned before, La Antigua Guatemala is the most often used backdrop in Guatemala for… you name it. Anything from films, concerts, paintings, photos, festivals, religious rituals, and why not, weddings too. Actually, La Antigua Guatemala is used often as the backdrop for weddings not only of Guatemalans, but for many foreigners as well.

The photo above was taken yesterday during a wedding at Antigua Guatemala’s cathedral. The day and weather were excellent to have the most romantic wedding ever.

Do you think Antigua Guatemala is a good choice as a destination to get married?

Wedding Catchers

Wedding Photography in Antigua Guatemala by Rudy Girón

I know, I know, it’s easy to think of photographers as the wedding crushers, but no, these ARE the wedding catchers since they capture every single moment from such an important event. Besides, these are my friends Iván Castro (dark shirt) and El Guie (t-shirt) doing their BBC photography work. BBC is what we photographers in Guatemala refer to as Bodas (weddings), Bautismos (baptisms) and Cumpleaños (birthdays) photography, which is by the way, the best way to make a living in the photography industry in this country.

I was glad to run into them at Frank’s beauty salon and to have a fun conversation and to catch up with their lives. Iván had just returned from a 50,000-kilometer trip through South America. Iván and I are funding members of FlickrGuatemala, a group that unites over 2,100 photographers in love with Guatemala.

Theme Day: Waiting

Waiting for the Novios

Since La Antigua is the wedding capital of Guatemala and very often used as wedding destination for couples the world over, it comes as no surprise that often there is plenty of waiting going around. Waiting for the bride, waiting for bridegroom, waiting for the photographer, waiting the parents, waiting for… you name it. Such was the case in this particular instance where this 1950′s old automobile was waiting for the wedding party.

I wonder what is the brand and model of this vehicle, do you know?

Like many firsts of the month, AntiguaDailyPhoto is participating in the theme day of the City Daily Photo community around the world. To see how others in the City Daily Photo community have interpreted today’s theme please click here to view thumbnails for all participants around the planet.

Antigua Guatemala As Wedding Destination

Antigua Guatemala as Wedding Destination

Almost a year ago I said that La Antigua Guatemala is the Wedding Capital of Guatemala. Later on, my good friend Daniel Chang, Professional Wedding Photographer, mentioned to me the term Wedding Destination. I think he’s right, La Antigua Guatemala makes a wonderful wedding destination and that’s why often, very often, you see couples, locals and foreigners, getting married in one of the churches.

This is what I said last year on November 24th:

La Antigua Guatemala is the most often used backdrop in Guatemala for… you name it. Anything from films, concerts, paintings, photos, festivals, religious rituals, and why not, weddings too. Actually, La Antigua Guatemala is used often as the backdrop for weddings not only of Guatemalans, but for many foreigners as well.

Now if you really want to see what a wedding in La Antigua Guatemala does look like in the hands of a professional photographer, check out the recent photo shoot of Hallie & Steve… Destination Wedding in Guatemala by Daniel Chang, good friend of mine. Daniel Chang even made a slide show of the wedding with music and all; a must see if you want to check out the work of a Pro.

Wedding Capital of Guatemala

La Antigua Guatemala is the most often used backdrop in Guatemala for… you name it. Anything from films, concerts, paintings, photos, festivals, religious rituals, and why not, weddings too. Actually, La Antigua Guatemala is used often as the backdrop for weddings not only of Guatemalans, but for many foreigners as well.

If you are interesting in seeing professional wedding photos with La Antigua Guatemala as backdrop, please check out the web site of my good friend Daniel Chang, a professional photographer who happens to have a very special click with this kind of photography. If you ever decide to take the plunge in one of the many churches in La Antigua Guatemala, don’t trust anybody else with your photographic memories.
