Sunsets at Parque Central

Interesting enough, Parque Central or main plaza is a great place to not only watch people, but also to enjoy the light of the sunsets during the dry season. The murmurs of the people and the running water of its fountain and the filtered light through the many leaves of branches of the canopy and the tolling of the bells at either the cathedral or nearby church put your heart and mind at the right state to really enjoy the free things in life of Antigua Guatemala.

On the Northern Side of Antigua Guatemala

As you may know, here in La Antigua Guatemala, like in many places, on odd-numbered avenues traffic runs North and on even-numbered avenues traffic flows South.

How many places North of Antigua Guatemala do you know where you can have these landscape views? Can you guess which place I’m referring to? How do you get to this place?

A hint: a few days ago the post would have been titled Sunset Amongst Volcanoes, any hypothesis as to why the change of title?

Almost Perfect

About Today’s Afternoon

This afternoon seems to have been one of the best of the year, and quoting Rudy: Linda tarde de enero en La Antigua Guatemala con un tiempo estupendo… He was absolutely correct and although I managed to get out of the house a bit late and almost missed the sunset, I was still able to capture these images to share with you.

Anyway, let’s hope that through some of the landscapes we have in the country, we can get people to enjoy more of the Guatemala and focus on reducing violence… What do you think, can violence be reduced through the appreciation of beauty? I hope so!

Just a sunset

There is something about how the sun rises and sets that gets people marveled, or in some kind of magical admiration to what nature shows us. On this past Tuesday I was about to meet some friends, and I began seeing what promised to be a beautiful sunset. Someone on the street said, it is just a sunset. Perhaps the person was depressed, or just angry at something, but it was the first time I’ve ever heard something like this. A few minutes later, I saw people with all sorts of cameras, cell phones, and everyone, me included, just taking photos.

So, the combination of Antigua, good friends, and great colors produced this sunset… In the end, it is just a sunset, Enjoy…

Random Feedback

I want to say how much I appreciate your blog! I lived in Guatemala for a year (in 2007) and I miss it a lot. My husband and I lived about an hour from Puerto Barrios and there was not much to do in the town we spent the majority of our time in. Every time we had a chance to get to Antigua, we were there! It really became our hometown in Guatemala. Once in a while, when I’m really wishing I could be there again, I find my way back to your blog and spend an hour or so looking through posts and feeling very nostalgic. It’s nice to be able to have a little insight into what’s currently going on in Antigua and around Guatemala. So, thanks! —Sarah Hiltz
