It's Always Ice Cream time In Guatemala by Rudy Giron

It looks like it doesn’t matter what season we are in Antigua Guatemala, rainy or dry, hot or cold, summer or winter, people are always eating ice cream. Furthermore, we have a large selection of ice cream and different kinds as well from the cheap cuquitos to the very expensive gelatos.

What’s your favorite Guatemalan ice cream?

Having Ice Cream in Antigua Guatemala by Rudy Girón

It’s amazing how people outside Latin America don’t realize that despite the crime and violence that shown through the news, most people in our countries find the time and love to spend quality time with friends and family. This entry was inspired by a recent post in XelaDailyPhoto where Luna talks about Quality Time and a family is shown having fun at the park during Semana Santa.

Luna writes,
Over the Semana Santa weekend, many families retreated to Parque Central to spend quality time together in between the processions, meals and traveling. For some of the smaller members of the family, running laps and chasing doves in the sunshine is enough to ensure a good night’s sleep.

I decided to follow up with one of the favorite activities that people enjoy doing in Antigua Guatemala: Having ice cream at Parque Central. That’s always been the purpose of AntiguaDailyPhoto.com, GuatemalaDailyPhoto.com and XelaDailyPhoto.com; to show how we live and love, to demonstrate that another lifestyle is possible, to highlight where we could improve but without forgetting that we slowly but surely we progress in our own unique sort of way.

Three Ice Cream Eating Nuns

I have said it often and I even declared it as irrefutable fact: the best place to have ice cream in Antigua Guatemala has to be the Plaza Mayor (main plaza), better known as Parque Central. So, it comes as no surprise that there are seven ice cream shops within one block from parque central; maybe more. Still, if you don’t believe me ask these three happy-ice-cream-eating nuns.

One more thing, remember that the ice cream in Guatemala is unbelievably delicious because it is the real McCoy.

If you don’t know the Guatemalan artists Ricardo Arjona and Gaby Moreno this is your chance to catch them both doing a duet arrangement. They are the most famous and popular Guatemalan artists abroad. (more…)

Ice Cream Memories by Pinar Istek

Ice cream vendors like the guy in the picture above are not only typical stamp of La Antigua Guatemala. As matter of fact, they are pretty much everywhere I visited in Guatemala; including here in Xela, where I now live; also in Huehuetenango, in Lake Atitlán, in Guatemala City, everywhere… really. On this one particular afternoon I saw this guy in front of the Central Park in Antigua Guatemala, and I started to think about my childhood. I am not from Guatemala, I am from a small southern town in Turkey. Ice cream is, however, a universal thing, that can take you all the way back in your memories, it doesn’t matter where you are in the world. He reminded me of those childhood days, when I would buy cheap and colorful ice cream in the streets when I was a little kid. I kinda miss them…

Eating Ice Cream in the Winter Season

Street photography is my thing because I like to capture people, their interactions, their clashes, their feelings, their thoughts (yeah right!), et-cetera. I also like to capture color and texture. If I am lucky I can get all of that in one photograph. —rg

I guess that many tourists like the opportunity to eat rich ice cream in the winter season in the open in La Antigua Guatemala’s streets. Last year I showed you two tourists taking a break in the late afternoon to eat ice cream in Enjoy it while it lasts!

Would you like to go out for ice cream just about now? I wish I could take my little sister Jamie for some ice cream because she turned 21 today.
