Presentation of the Ballet Nacional de Guatemala in Antigua Guatemala
Tonight we were very lucky in Antigua Guatemala because we had the rare opportunity to see the Ballet Nacional de Guatemala performed in the San José El Viejo Church ruins, one of my favorite venues for artistic manifestations. Some of you may remember these ruins as the backdrop for the entry Free Culture where the violoncello player Yan Levionnois, born 1990 delighted us with pieces by Sebastian Bach, George Crumb, Zoltán Kodaly and Henri Dutilleux.
This time the Ballet Nacional de Guatemala performed the following dances: Le Grand Pas de Quattre; El Amor, los Prejuicios y la muerte; Danza de las horas and III acto del ballet “Raymonda.”
According to the program for the evening, the Ballet Nacional de Guatemala was funded in 1948 and it’s the only classic dance company in Central America. Furthermore, the Ballet Nacional de Guatemala is considered Cultural Patrimony of the Nation.
