Antigua Guatemala’s Magic Ingredients

Warm light, textures, rich colors and always blooming flowers and plants are part of the magic of Antigua Guatemala. Of course, the real secret is the enchanting smile of the antigüeños or panzas verdes, green bellies, as we call the locals here. Well, this is my opinion; perhaps you have a different set of things that attract you to La Antigua Guatemala and I would like to know what they are? Please, do share with us what are the your favourite aspects of this colonial town in the high lands of Central America.

Honestly, I love everything about Antigua..the beautiful facades as shown in this picture, the bright and vibrant colors, the rich culture, and most of all the very kind and beautiful people.

Antigua is an idyll; I’m agreeing with Judy and Eric and no doubt with anyone else who responds here! This fabulous picture represents many of Antigua’s favourite features: the purity of the indigenous people; the history in the old walls; the colourful and exuberant foliage; the colonial cobbled streets and long vistas with few people. I’ll sign up for more of this!

Lo que mas me agrada de Antigua es su diversidad etnica y cultural. Uno puede hablar con respeto con gente de muchos lugares, incluyendo los puebles aledaños a La Antigua, sonreir, aprender de quienes vienen de muy lejos, compartir, comer un plato tipico de almuerzo por Q20 y una cena de Q400, descansar, pasar horas en una hamaca contemplando un jardin lleno de colas de Quetzal y orquideas, recibiendo el sol por la tarde, bailar, ir a un lugar a platicar y que le ofrezca una cerveza una morena Antigueña, o una rubia de Estonia, para asi salir a la pista, contemplar, pasar la vida sin leer noticias, preocuparse de cambio climatico, viruses zoonoticos, o la ultima musica de moda en Corea. Todo en un lugar con un clima templado, a veces lleno de calma, a veces lleno de musica y ruido. Antigua, esperame, llego pronto.
