I’m a journalist, don’t shoot

Today while leading a photo walk around Antigua Guatemala we encounter a group of journalists demanding safety and security from the authorities under the hashtag #SoyPeriodistaNoDispare. Latin America is not a safe place to practise the profession of journalism, especially so in an election year, as it so happens to be the case of Guatemala. Interesting enough, the current administration got into the office with the electoral promise to put forward a mano dura, hard line, against crime. Needless to say, that promise remain just a promise during the last four years. I mean to have journalist marching on the streets all over Guatemala demanding safety and security to do their work should be an indication that mano dura was simply a campaign slogan.

New campaign leader is offering jobs on this electoral year. Veremos how that promise goes…
