Sights of Our Times: Trucks Used As Public Transportation
As I have mention before, public transportation was forbidden at the start of the pandemic Covid-19 in March 16 throughout Guatemala. People have to make do with bicycles, motorcycles, private cars and trucks that have become unregulated taxis to accommodate the majority of the population who depend on public transportation to move in between larger distances; for short distances walking is preferred.
If you ask me, this pandemic has revealed in a crystal clear manner the inequalities that existed and still exist in our old normality. The measures imposed by the national government have affected the poor and needy much more than those who can drive their own car, decide whether to shop at the markets, supermarkets or in bulk in places like Pricesmart [the local Costco brand] or can work remotely from the convenience of home.
