Typical Guatemalan Diner’s Food
Most Guatemalan comedores (diners) serve either typical Guatemalan food or simply diner’s food as shown here. Often, both kinds of food are available any given day. I show you this dish so you don’t get the wrong idea or impression and believe that Guatemalans only eat typical food such as pepián o tamales. In fact, most Guatemalan eat just normal food such as albondigas (meatballs), espagueti, rice and beans, eggs, chicken or beef churrascos, etc. A lunch like this one goes for about Q40/$5 a most mid-level comedores such as Café Santa Clara, and about a third less at cheaper fonditas. ¡Buen provecho!
