Sympathy for the Devil

Well, not really. See you see all these masks are for parades celebrated through out Guatemala, but prominently at Ciudad Vieja and now in San Pedro Las Huertas, so I have been told as part of the dance-drama called “Danza de la legión de los 24 diablos” or “Dance of the legion of 24 Devils” during the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception celebrations in Ciudad Vieja, the town located about 3 miles south-west from Antigua Guatemala, this past Monday, Dec. 8, 2014. I should pay more attention to the festivities of Ciudad Vieja, don’t you think?

However, before I get to document the “Danza de la legión de los 24 diablos,” I get to document the Burning of the Devil event in La Antigua Guatemala on December 7 starting at 6pm. Stay tuned for upcoming coverage of this very peculiar and interesting festivity.
