The Independence Flame is Ready for the Torches
Since last Saturday, September 10, the “Flame of Independence” was set out at the doorsteps of Palacio del Ayuntamiento of Antigua Guatemala. That’s the Muni for short or city hall building for those monolinguals. As in previous years, people run marathons, zig-zaging the entire country, to pick the flame of independence to bring back to their communities via a torch.
Here we can see a member of the pregoneros, town criers, waiting for a new antorcha group to pick up the independence flame to go through the welcoming protocol and greetings. As I mentioned on September 1, we celebrate Independence Day through the entire month.
