It’s Pumkin Season in Guatemala
Here’s your illustrated Spanish word of the day: Calabaza for squash. In Guatemala we also use ayote and chilacayote for specific kinds of squash.
In the book 1491 I came across a little obscure fact: most pumpkins and squashes are native to Guatemala. Here’s a squash and pumpkin sampler that I found at Finca Caoba. Tell me if all these squashes are available in your neck of the woods.
