Guatemalan Daily Lunch Special — Pollo Empanizado
Here’s your Guatemalan Spanish phrase of the day: Menú del día for daily lunch special.
Even though there are plenty fast-food restaurants in Antigua Guatemala, we still have a lot of comedores, diners, that offer Guatemalan daily lunch menu specials, such as La Casa de las Mixtas, El Portón, El Rincón Típico just to mention a few. So, what’s a Guatemalan menú del día, you ask? Well, it’s a complete meal that includes tortillas and a drink for an accessible price, usually somewhere between Q15/$2 and Q30/$4. Each day, the daily menu changes to different meals; sometimes more than one dish are offered.
The Guatemalan daily menu lunch special shown here sells for Q20 at La Casa de las Mixtas and it includes the following: courgette or zucchini cream with bread and butter, breaded chicken, pasta salad, fig cream dessert, natural horchata drink and 3 tortillas. This is a great deal if you consider that this meal is home-made, nutritious and delicious and it costs half of what a fast-food combo would cost. I know, I know, it makes no sense that someone would rather pick a fast-food restaurant combo over a complete meal like this one. ¡Buen provecho!
