Day of the Dead Is Family Time
In Guatemala Day of the Dead is a celebration that reunites the living with the dead.
They say that you’re not dead until you’re forgotten. Well, in Guatemala you are remembered for much much longer as families set up a little shrine at home with your portrait, flowers and candles to always keep you present and for celebrations as All Saints Day and Day of the Dead the entire family gets together to spend the entire day at graveyards of the loved ones.
Here I captured a family at the Mayan village of Santiago Sacatepéquez who came to clean up and paint the graveyard of a family member in preparations for the November 1st celebrations.
