Guatemalan Money Sampler

Just like everything else in Guatemala, money is very colorful. I believe I could also do a series in Guatemalan currency. What do you guys think? Would you be interested in knowing a little bit of history and background information on the bills and coins from Guatemala?

Can you imagine a series on bills and coins? Now, imagine a series on bills and coins used by fincas and haciendas (farms and plantations)? Now that would be an extraordinary series on currency. Do you want me to?

Interesting and colorful. The United States is about to do away with the dollar bills as they do not last long and it costs a fortune to print new bills every day or so. The are talking about using a dollar coin and taking the bills off the street.

Rudy, a series on Guatemalan currency would be great. My son calls the Q1 coins “doubloons”… maybe it’s too many pirate movies, no ? Now if only I could find an ATM in Guate. that dispenses smaller bills than Q100 notes ….. Ja ja ja

A series on currency would be great. But, please do another one, just like this with “real” Qs….you know, that ones that are worn, torn, and well used 🙂 I am amazed that you could find all of these clean paper bills!

@Pattie, I promise I will use “real” crappy-wrinkled-all-used-up bills for some of the entries. I will make sure to mention some of the reasons why Guatemalan bills stay so long in use if I can find the answers. 😉

@Jerry T, you need to go the bank more often, that’s where you find the brand-new unwrinkled bills; but you must ask for them. 🙁

  @Ale, thanks for letting me know about the problem with the entry Día de los Reyes. I don’t why, but sometimes, some entries give the 404 error (non-existent page) even though you can see the page just find. I will do more research to find out what’s causing the problem. By the way, Día de Reyes is now fixed!

  @Don, yes fincas and haciendas used to coin their own money, sort of a feudal system. I will give out more details when I get to the Guatemalan currency series. Stay tune!
