Iglesia Escuela de Cristo Reflected on a Fountain

Iglesía Escuela de Cristo Reflected on a Fountain by Rudy Giron

I have not idea why La Escuela de Cristo church is so important in Antigua Guatemala. The two largest processions from Antigua Guatemala actually are La Merced and Escuela de Cristo. Often on my way home I go by this church and I have noticed there are large weddings here every weekend. Now, Escuela de Cristo is the most often name used for this church, but it’s not the official name, do you know what is the official name for this church?

  1. I’ve stayed across the street from it the last two winters and know that it has a longer name — is it something like “Nuestra señora de la escuela de Cristo”?

    • Parroquia Nuestra Señora de los Remedios is the official name, with another phrase which includes the Escuela de Cristo part of the name.

    • Federico, I believe you’re correct. Do you know this church is actually the second Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios? Do you know where the original church is located?
