Silver Miner Costume at Central Park

This silver-painted miner is the most recent show I have seen at Central Park. People were fascinated by the frozen stand of this performer who only moved when people deposited a tip a on his collection box. Children, of course, were the most interested during the performance.

Ah, pop culture comes to Antigua! No matter where I travel around the world, this is not what I come to see or experience. I know at one time the Tourist Police were intent at keeping the sellers of Guatemalan crafts out of the Central Park. I’d much prefer getting a chance to practice my Spanish with the ladies and kids selling handicrafts than experiencing the “talent” of those such as Minero. If there was ever justification of the Tourist Police cleaning up the Park, this is it!

What kind of “minas” can be found around Antigua? pregunto.
So, in other words, the mime is also imitating local politicians who remain motionless during much of their terms and only move when a few copper coins enter their pockets !

I think that’s pretty cool, and based on your description, it seems like kids are loving it. I have no issues with someone making an honest living.
