Guatemalan Style vs World Fashion

Rudy Giron: AntiguaDailyPhoto.com &emdash; Colorful Mayan Clothing from Guatemala

In my opinion, the native Maya clothing from Guatemala are very stylish. Some might argue that Guatemalan Maya clothes are even in fashion now. What are your thoughts about the Guatemalan Maya style?

  1. I LOVE them !! It”s because of the Mayan people that us foreigners come to Guatemala and why we love it soooo much !!! ( not just the dress of course, but especially their warm hearted welcome, their honest smiles and their inner and outer beauty ) They should feel so proud, because they are the true heritage and beauty of Guatemala. I was so sad when I was in Antigua on a saturday and saw how the rich folks from the capital treated the mayan people, often ignoring them as if they didn”t even exist. I can”t understand how they can behave like that and it makes me mad and sad. I can’t pass by a child without giving them something, when I tour the villages in the Cuchumatanes, I bring tons of presents to give to the kids and it makes me so happy to see them happy. So why do those rich folks don’t do something for their own people ?? And the mayan women can be so very proud of their beautful traje and all the hard work that goes into it. It’s truely beautiful and I wish there more than only a few villages where men also wear traditional clothes – like the guy from Soloa in this picture ;o) !!

  2. I find it incredibly wonderful that the style, the traje tradicional, still exists. Nice shot, Rudy; it captures the mind-boggling patterns and color combinations of traje beautifully. Like most everything else in the land of eternal spring, the style is all about color, color, COLOR! And anyone who can make clothes like these deserves the respect of a master artist.

    • You know it Eric, and I have preached about color, color, colour many times before here. 😉
