Backroads In and Around Antigua Guatemala

Antigua Guatemala has to be a paradise for those who like to bike ride or trek through backroads. There are so many little roads that take your through coffee plantations, villages or mountains around Antigua Guatemala. You can take any direction and you are assured to find backroads into interesting sights. For instance, this backroad is part of 5a avenida sur, that’s Calle del Arco on the north side, which you can take to visit Vivero and Café La Escalonia or Coaba Farms further south. If you continue on this backroad you can travel through coffee plantations as well and eventually end up in San Pedro Las Huertas. As a matter of fact, before the main road was built which connected San Pedro, San Juan del Obispo and Santa María de Jesús, this was the Calle Real, or the Royal road.

Would you take backroad tours if they were available in Antigua Guatemala?

Wow; ghost-riders! Personally, this effect heightens the sense of history; of one passing through and passing on. This 5a Avenida location is very special; maybe the tree shade creates such fantastic light and crystal clarity? Either way, it demonstrates again what you have often said: green is the most wonderful and varied colour….and La Antigua is full of it!

  Actually Canche, this was a happy accident, well sort of. I knew I was going to get ghosts because I was photographing using the HDR technique, which simply means several photographs with different exposures and then merge together to give you a higher dynamic range image. Thanks for the awesome feedback Canche. I really appreciate it.
