Sights of Our Times: Part of the Market Setting up at the Compañía de Jesús Atrium
As part of the effort to bring the rate of infection to the colors orange or even yellow, the Ayuntamiento of La Antigua Guatemala, City Hall, is moving parts of the mercado to different parts of the city to release the pressure on the municipal market on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, commonly known as market days. Historically, the ruins and remains of the Antiguo Colegio de La Compañía de Jesús, or former college of the Jesuit Society, functioned as the market for several decades, perhaps even a century; so it is only fitting the atrium will be used again as part of the market. Below you can see more tents being set up in the ample atrium.
