Okay, here we go again. We are going to discuss a sensitive issue again.

Yes, Spanish Classes in La Antigua Guatemala is a very touchy subject, you know. The next post will definitely raise a few voices and hurt some feelings. I just hope to come out slightly bruised from this affair. But before we open the book on this unpredictable topic, we should take a coffee break.

    I’ve been to Spanish classes in La Antigua 4x. I’d love to hear all about the issues surrounding this “touchy topic.” I guess I could imagine, but I’m interested in knowing what the issues are on this topic. I’m looking forward to the discussion!

    It must be hard to learn Spanish in La Antigua, being surrounded not only by so many expats but by so many eager Guatemalans that want to be loved to the point of exportation, as certain protagonist of certain book by certain author so clearly declares.

    Hey, I will take a coffee break any time of day… I have some Café León “Mi Blend” which if I remember well might have some of that coffee they grow in La Antigua… thanks Mom!

    BTW…someone we know just started Spanish classes in Toronto and that could be a “touchy subject”…(I am waiting for THAT posting).

    Fellow teachers who have wanted to learn Spanish or sharpen their language skills have asked me about Antigua and I offered ideas as far as hotels/posadas/apartments for rent and so on, but when it came to Spanish classes I gave them my disclaimer that I know little. All I know is there are many, many schools and they all claim to be the best. To their benefit though, I read inside a traveling magazine that Antigua is one of the top destinations to learn Spanish. When we’ve visited, I have seen teachers with their students having breakfast at Do~na Luisa’s or sitting at the central plaza or practicing lessons near La Merced or having a lesson on what sounds like conversational Spanish at La Fonda. Actually, it seemed anywhere we’d go, we were bound to find Spanish classes “al aire libre.” I’d like to have that option here. “Okay, kids, today we will learn about __________ at the park, take your snacks!” :-D

    I take that back, there is _no way_ I would take a bunch of munchkins without having the appropriate support of at least five adults…and the principal’s blessing.:-p
