Colorful Hand-made Guatemalan Handicrafts

Rudy Giron: AntiguaDailyPhoto.com &emdash;

In a time and world where everything is manufactured in assembly lines in China, Guatemalan artisans still make colorful pieces by hand. Each handicraft similar but unique at the same time thanks to the imperfection introduced by the each artisan with their own hands and hearts.

What are your thoughts regarding hand-made pieces versus assembly-line mass produced goods?

    As you point out, true artisans work is a product of the hands and heart. From an aesthetic standpoint, the charm is undeniable and there is no contest against mass produced goods! Having said that, I’m glad my computer is from a Chinese production line with reproducible, known quality…. otherwise; “Fijese Don Canche; es que me faltaron unas letritas del teclado, pero ahi se lo arreglo al chilazo!”

    What delightful folk-art goblets perfect for wine. If I served drinks in these to our friends, they’d all want a set. Rudy, when I’m back in Antigua in August, you’ll have to point me to where I can buy a set or two of them.

    • Hi Willy, you can get these wonderful folk-art goblets at Alyss Boutique (http://alyssboutique.com/), check them out next time you’re in Antigua Guatemala. Tell them you learned about then in AntiguaDailyPhoto.
