Baroque Pillars of Ruinas El Carmen

p3903939702-5-7128120

For today, I bring you a close-up view of the intricate stucco details plastered on the pillars of Ruinas El Carmen, one of the best examples of the colonial baroque architecture of the Americas. El Carmen Artisan market is located right next to these ruins and on the weekends spawns onto the streets.

Often, I still wonder how we have managed to preserve the beautiful baroque architecture from 16th century in this tiny town embedded between colossal volcanoes in the Mayan highlands of norther Central America. Do you ever think about these things?
