As I have mentioned before, a handicraft market mushrooms on the outside of Ruinas Del Carmen on the weekends and holidays. The ruins of El Carmen are located on 3a avenida norte, between 2a calle oriente and 3a calle oriente. It is a great place to enjoy the Winter weather outside while negotiating the best price for those Mayan textiles from the highlands of Guatemala.

I have wonderful memories of wheeling & dealing there over the years. As I write this I’m looking at some of those very purchases, now hanging on my wall.
So, I guess Guatemala is always on your mind, right Mercutio57?
Oh yeah. Especially as we’re about to get hit with 20 to 30 inches of snow…

I love how this post captures the vibrant essence of the Weekend Handicrafts Market at Ruinas del Carmen! The setting sounds magical, with Mayan textiles and the rich history of the ruins coming together in such a beautiful way. The mix of culture, tradition, and charm of Antigua Guatemala makes it feel like a must-visit spot. Negotiating for unique crafts while enjoying the lovely winter weather sounds like the perfect weekend activity. Thanks for sharing this hidden gem!
