Sights of Our Times — Lottery tickets vendors waiting for clients

Honestly, I wonder how many people are still buying lottery tickets. Covid-19 has proven to be a formidable virus, turning the world upside down. Almost no industry has been spared.

Just today I was reading an interview with one of the AirBNB executives who said that it took them over 12 years to build a company that was almost ready for its initial public offering [IPO] and within 4 to 6 weeks they almost lost it all. Tourism is quite possibly one of the hardest hit industries, which in turn affects the industries of travel, restaurants and bars, hotels, car rentals, shuttle service, et cetera.

This new reality has not fully revealed yet; we are just going to have to way until the dust settles; don’t you think?

  1. This is true, Rudy and it’s the same here in the UK. The service industry has been hard hit and even large well-known companies are going bankrupt now….and it’s only just beginning! The government here has supported people unable to work during the lockdown, but it cannot go on forever. I hear that in Guatemala it is difficult and there are people waving white flags in the street, basically begging for support of any kind. La Antigua depends on tourism and I feel so sorry for all of you affected by this. The dust could be a long time settling, so I hope and pray that some solutions appear that help to some degree. The whole world is in this together….not that it makes things any easier. En solidaridad,
    Canche.
