Life Goes On in Antigua Guatemala

Rudy Giron: Antigua Guatemala &emdash; Arch of Santa Catalina in Antigua Guatemala

I have been contacted by quite a few people with interesting in traveling to Guatemala in the coming months and wanted to know how is life in Antigua Guatemala, how are we coping with the pandemic. This is what I told them.

Life goes on as usual in Antigua Guatemala with the exception of everyone wearing face masks, the use gel at the entrance of every business and government office, temperature checks in most businesses and offices. as well as stepping on wet mats with bleach at the entrances. We also have reduced hours of service and reduced capacity to avoid the agglomeration of people. For instance, at the time of this writing, bars and restaurants must close by 9pm. All massive events are prohibited for now, but people can still go to church following the aforementioned health protocols.

Furthermore, Guatemala has purchased 16 million Sputnik V vaccines and 3.3 million additional vaccines through Covax, the UN vaccine distribution entity. So, mass inoculations are around the corner. Covid tests are free at most health centers through out the country.

In summary, chances are that if you travel to Guatemala now, you might be safer here than at your own city simply because most Guatemalans are following all the health protocols that keep the pandemic at bay. So, come and spend some time in the Land of the Eternal Spring.
