As every December 12, Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe is observed in Guatemala. Unlike other years where I normally head to Iglesia de La Merced to capture the activities held there as part of the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, this year I decided to document the convite parades and costume dances from San Pedro Las Huertas, about 3 km from Antigua Guatemala.
We’ll begin this cultural trip with the float of the Legion of the 24 Devils which included dragons, Death and a Virgin morena. Watch out Games of Thrones, our dragons are just as mean, but quite more colourful, don’t you agree. Now, Ciudad Vieja is world-famous for the parades and dances of the Legion of the 24 Devils; this year the village of San Pedro Las Huertas decided to offer some serious competition.
Come back tomorrow to watch the photographic documentation of the very unusual convite dance parade from San Pedro Las Huertas. Furthermore, I also recorded a video clip so you get a better idea of what convides are.
