Alto, watch this corner…
While looking at this typical vista from La Antigua Guatemala, it occurred to me that we are unos mirones, it is sort of like voyeurs minus the sexual connotation, but a little more than observers. I take the shots and you are my accomplices in this venture. We enjoy the captures of the normal street life scenes from La Antigua Guatemala. We are some mirones; I do it behind the viewfinder and you do it in front of your monitor, thousands of miles away.
Anyhow, I really like the rhythm of the image above. I like all the different actions of the people, almost totally unaware of the camera. Honestly, I am very happy with this particular photograph. I feel it captures, very well, the essence of an usual street scene in La Antigua Guatemala. For those of you who have visited this colonial town, what is your opinion of this photograph?

My wife and I recently made our first trip to Antigua (the week Fuego erupted!). We stayed at The Cloister so this picture brings back many fond memories of being on this street!! We really have enjoyed your pictures and commentary.

Pues I believe that that specific corner is the centre of the universe… and that if I go back to that specific spot and do a 360 degrees turn the universe would either collapse or I will find true happiness, or maybe, maybe both. (I just feel lyrical today).

Thousands of miles (away) or for me, less than a mile! As I view the picture, I hear the sounds of the buses, the other morning sounds of Antigua waking up. It doesn’t get much better than this!

It really is, for me, a vivid snapshot, with the feeling of ‘looking in’ through a portal to another World. It makes me think of the surreal ‘moving stillness’ of some de Chirico paintings, and has the depth of composition of an oil painting, as if each character/object has been placed to convey many layers of meaning, several stories woven together…

This photo definitely has rhythm. When I saw it I could almost feel the cobblestones under my feet again. Then I read Manolo’s comment - now I can feel myself passing through the center of the universe! Miss it, can’t wait to be back there…

Feels like I am there…La Antigua is a true gem that makes an imprint on your mind and soul. You can’t understand until you go there..I am thousands of miles away-thanks for making me feel a little closer today.

I imagine you took the picture in the afternoon, from the dark sky I can smell the rain coming. You clearly get a sense of the laid back attitude, the rich colors on the walls and the dark marks left by years of downpours only adds to the character of La Antigua. The picture conducts a deep desire for some coffee and pan dulce.

la foto tiene una sencilles especial y transmite esa idea que todos tenemos de Antigua, pero lo que mas me gusta es la ausencia de vehiculos, casi parece una foto de hace 20 anos, antes de la invacion vehicular.

I have not yet been to La Antigua but will be traveling there en noviembre. This is a wonderful photo and I do agree with your note about the rythym of this piture. I am truly enjoying the photo a day and am anxious to know La Antigua.

Beautiful. Interestingly enough, I smiled when I saw your photo because I took a photo from about this same spot when we were in LAG in 2005. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe we’re looking north at Merced Cathedrale.

I have a friend that noticed that anyone could tell who is Guatemalan and who is not from the crowd because a Guatemalan always uses jeans, it´s like a uniform. Funny, but sometimes it is true.
