This entry should be called “ephemerides updates” because there several events that happened this week. On Tuesday, kids everywhere celebrated carnaval, carnival, by breaking cascarones on the heads of their peers. Next, on Wednesday, the beginning of Cuaresma, Lent, was marked by the celebration of Ash Wednesday; there were many people with an ash cross painted on their foreheads. On the very same Wednesday, there were velaciones (please help translate this word) ceremonies. Of course, with the Lent season also comes the procession season. There were small processions during the weekdays and the usual large processions on the weekend. Needless to say, it was a very busy week in La Antigua Guatemala.
Portfolio Aside: Some of my photos shown daily at AntiguaDailyPhoto sometimes find their way into magazines and newspapers. Such is the case of First Signs of Christmas which end up in page 29 of Plan Post, Das Paten-Magazin. Also, the photo Guatemalan Cuisine: Caldo de Pata was the cover for the February edition of Revue Magazine as well as other food images found cozy spaces inside the interior pages as part of the Revue special: Antigua Dining Sampler. If you want to keep up with all the places where the AntiguaDailyPhoto images show up, check the Portfolio page regularly. 😉

***De Aserrín y Flores***
Lo que es burdo desecho
con paciencia y devoción
se viste de colores…
Y con la misma dedicación
de quien pinta un cuadro
o esculpe una imagen,
las calles se vestirán de arte.
Durante días se prepararan
los materiales: aserrín de colores
corozo, pino y las más bellas flores.
Se trazara el área,
se harán unos bosquejos
y poco a poco las imágenes
que están en el corazón
de sus creadores darán vida
a las alfombras multicolores.
Hay quienes dirán tanto trabajo
para solo un momento…
Son los que no entienden que la
vida se vive momento a momento.
El Nazareno con su presencia
bendice a un pueblo que no
renuncia a su fe con mil matices.
A lo lejos se devisa el anda,
el aroma del corozo, flores
incienso y pino evoca
la “Semana Santa en Guatemala.”
