Where in the world is Antigua Guatemala?
I decided to start the Antigua Guatemala Daily Photo after I came across the blog Paris Daily Photo. I don’t recall how I found my way to the blog, but there I was asked to join the group of people who publish a daily photo about the town where they live. I asked myself why not? La Antigua Guatemala is a very photographic city and books have been published about the colonial town. Furthermore, La Antigua has been used as a backdrop for movies.
Now, to answer the question where in the world is La Antigua Guatemala, just follow the screen captures below. La Antigua Guatemala was once the capital for the Republic of Guatemala, the north-most country in Central America, south of Mexico. The English translation would be something like the Old Guatemala City. The city when was founded was named Santiago de Los Caballeros de Guatemala. You can read more about its history in the Wikipedia entry.
Even though a Daily Photo City should have only one photo per day; thus the name, I will post more photos in my initial entry so I can utilize the photos I already have in Flickr. Also, I want to thank the Beirut, Lebanon for the list of Daily Photo Cities on the sidebar. I will add more cities as they become available.

[...] One of the things I like best about La Antigua Guatemala is its location. One hour or less from Guatemala City and the Pacific Ocean, about two hours or less from the most beautiful lake in the world: Lake Atitlán (according to Alexander von Humboldt). A little under three hours from Quetzaltenango or Xela like its locally known. Back on January 17th I showed this satellite map of Southern Guatemala in which you can see La Antigua Guatemala in relation to Guatemala City, Lake Atitlan, the Pacific Ocean and the volcanoes of Pacaya, Agua, Fuego and Acatenango. It is great little map and I recommend that you take a look at it along with the other satellite maps I posted on the very first entry on this site: Where in the World is La Antigua Guatemala. [...]

Rudy, please continue with the daily photos. They are wonderful. Gives people who haven’t been there a good idea of how beautiful the city is, and for those of us who have visited, a daily reminder of why we want to come back.
I was recently there in March, unfortunately our schedules kept us from meeting, but I too have become obsessed with the Chicken Buses. I bet I took about 25 photos of the different ones I saw. I was so thrilled to see your pictures and the explanation about the buses.
I am hoping to return in Nov of this year. Keep up the great work.
