Street Photography in Antigua Guatemala — Two phones or more

Rudy Giron: Antigua Guatemala &emdash; Street Photography — Mayan girl with smartphones

Guatemala’s National Telephone Company was so bad that land lines only represent less than 5% of all the telephone lines in Guatemala. On top of that, it used to be so expensive and with waiting periods of years to get a telephone line. Lucky us that cellular telephony came to be and soon enough Guatemala became one of the countries with the largest penetration of cellular and mobile internet access. There are over Over 25 million cellular lines for a total of population of nearly 16 million means that most Guatemalans have two or three cellular lines, often each with different carrier. Soon enough, all these lines will have a smartphone as a terminal.

Imagine the possibilities of having such connectivity with the majority of the population. What kind of project would you create?

To continue or not to continue aside: Since so many of you have contacted about continuing with the posts of AntiguaDailyPhoto, I have decided to go on publishing, but from this point forward I will not do daily updates, unless I can get more people to collaborate, which by the way, that’s the direction I want to take for this website. Let many more people contribute to have many more voices as well. Let me know if you would like to be contributor. For the rest, I recommend you subscribe to the email alerts of new content, see the subscription form on top of the sidebar.
