Legends of Guatemala — El Sombrerón

Hello friends, today I bring you a very scary picture of El Sombrerón, a Guatemalan legend of an espanto or ghost that goes after women with long hair. I caught him on a photograph made at night inside the necropolis of San Lázaro in Antigua Guatemala.

This night of Leyendas de Guatemala play was organized by the Comisión Sociocultural de La Antigua Guatemala as part of the 38th Anniversary of the UNESCO’s Declaration of World Heritage of La Antigua Guatemala. The theatrical group TziTzimiTe 2017 gave two performances, 7pm and 9pm, to a delighted audience of thousands who made their way to the San Lazaro Cemetery in Antigua Guatemala.
