The flavor in life is found in the little details. The transit signs in La Antigua Guatemala are a very good example of that. You take something boring but necessary as a stop sign and turn it into a beautiful detail; which makes your walks around town a little more pleasant to the eyesight. The stop signs (alto in Spanish) in La Antigua Guatemala are made from red ceramic tiles and metal frames.

At present this building still goes by the name of Colegio Mayor de Santo Tomás de Aquino and still belongs to the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala (USAC), but it is now a museum and cultural center. It is beautifully restored and peaceful; awesome place to enjoy a quite afternoon with a book.

During the Lent period (Cuaresma in Spanish) many houses and businesses are decorated with purple or violet strips of textiles and bands as the one above seen at the Santo Domingo Hotel.
Even simple details like the marker for the men’s bathroom is done with style in many places around Antigua Guatemala. Here you can see the stain glass marker for the bathroom for señores. Nothing like an image to be universally understood. This photograph was taken at La Fuente as well.
