Here’s an unusual and interesting bird’s eye view of the typical public transit bus which is used in most of Guatemala. In this picture the bus shown is the Orellana bus line that connects Antigua Guatemala with Guatemala City.
Have you ever ridden on a chicken bus? How was your ride?

I did, on several occasions, when I was a kid living in Guatemala and the best word I can use to describe it is adventurous. They would definitely pack as many as they could in there, but I have to admit that the experience was usually fun — even when the bus broke down and left all of us stranded (like the time the brakes actually failed!). I’m not sure if it’s something I’d want to do now as an adult though, but definitely good childhood memories.
Hombre, to visit Guate and NOT ride on a chicken bus is to miss an essential part of the experience!
