Fake Door on Sidewall

Fake Door on Sidewall

I don’t get it, why would anyone would go through the hassle of building a fake door, then painting it to look real, and finally adding a sign above it?

¿Qué alguien me lo explique? Can somebody explain it?

    Perhaps because it is beautiful?

  • It’s easy: a fake door leads to a fake house which is located in a fake world. If you are a fake man, of course.

I like it and think it is very ingenious. It’s trickery at it best. I wonder if it meets Antigua’s door height/width code?

  • Thanks to my co-worker Luis Toribio, who decided to investigate further, this door was built in 1956 in memoriam of Sonia Araus Vásquez with the title of La Puerta Fingida.

See, as always, there’s more to it than meets the eye. 😉

Rudy, What are the coordinates on this door? I may want to visit it one day.

  • MO, La Puerta Fingida can be found at the end of 5a calle poniente, corner of Calle de Los Recoletos and 5a calle poniente, one block away from the Cementerio de San Lazaro.
