It is Asclepias curassavica, known here in New Orleans as Scarlet Milkweed. It is the host plant for Monarch butterfly caterpillars and so it is often planted to attract and assist the beautiful monarch!

It is Asclepias curassavica, the Scarlet Milkweed, host plant for the Monarch caterpillar. We have a bunch of it in our backyard to attract and assist the butterflies….thanks for all your wonderful photos, we enjoy them very much!
